Löwenzahn is a hybrid documentary that examines how one specific family story has all but vanished. Through audio interviews, phone calls and fictionalised scenes, the film follows the filmmaker, Keira, as she sets out to piece together a story about her late grandmother Ursula’s bicycle journey from East to West Germany to escape the Red Army. As Keira learns a series of vague details about her grandmother’s trip, a tapestry of stories begins to
emerge - part-fact, part- imagined - each one leading to the next. As surprising discoveries are made - including that her grandmother survived by eating dandelions and was captured and interrogated in a basement for three weeks - the greatest shock of all is how much of the story has been lost forever. Speaking to her father, her uncles, and her sister, Keira uncovers new truths and memories that provide insight into why this story has gradually been lost over time. Löwenzahn is an examination of generational trauma, guilt, the desire to share and ask questions, and what prevents us from doing so.
