Loose Goose Productions. We make films. London-based.
Founded by Asa Gartland and Gregory Hackel-Johnson, who met at The London Film School, Loose Goose Productions is built around a shared interest in bold visual storytelling, offbeat humour and an appetite for risk (artistic).
Our approach is fuelled by a sense of fun that allows for ideas to reveal themselves along the way. We make films that live between genres and embrace both the sublime and the ridiculous. In the age of the algorithm, we look for work that tackles complex human emotions via unexpected routes.
Whether it’s short form, long form, or commercial work, we’re drawn to projects that feel alive. Work that surprises us, makes us laugh, or leaves us feeling seen and exposed. If it has style, character, and something real at its core, it sounds like a Loose Goose production.
Asa Gartland is a writer, director and producer from Yorkshire. His approach to filmmaking is shaped by the region’s humour, unpretentious, honest, and grounded in real life. His work looks for the sweet spot between drama and comedy, exploring the absurdity and pain of life through a comedic lens.
Asa’s films have screened at several BAFTA and BIFA-qualifying festivals, receiving recognition in the UK and internationally. He has worked across camera, production, and scripted development, giving him a practical understanding of how films are built from the ground up.
His 2024 film Hold… Please! won Best Screenplay at Watersprite Film Festival and was shortlisted for the Young Director Award held during the Cannes Lions Festival.
Gregory Hackel-Johnson is a Swiss-American-German writer, director, and cinematographer. His work is informed by his multi-cultural upbringing and a diverse background in photography, graphic design, and art history. His films search for the harmony in opposites: pairing incongruous genres, blending reality with the fantastical, or interweaving serious ruminations with the bizzare.
Gregory has directed a range of short films and worked extensively behind the camera and in the edit suite across both narrative and commercial projects. His work has screened at various BAFTA and BIFA-qualifying festivals, and has been recognized with award nominations.
